It lives on the console table in our entryway, under the mirror and next to the big candle, so it's the first thing people see when they walk in. The star on top of the stable catches the light nicely. Three different guests have asked where I bought it and could not believe I made it myself.
Couldn't pick just one photo, so here's the set in a few of the spots it has lived this month: by the tree, on the kitchen table, and up on a kitchen shelf. The one in my hand is the angel, so you can see how small the beads are. My grandkids each claimed a figure and move them around whenever they visit.
Took a close-up on the sideboard by the lamp because the other pictures don't do the beadwork justice. You can see every single bead on the sheep and the ox, and Mary's blue dress shines when the lamp is on. I had never done any beadwork before this kit and it's honestly the nicest thing I've ever made.
Just finished the last king last night, so for now the whole set is sitting on the kitchen counter next to the fruit bowl and a candle, since that's where I did all the beading anyway. The donkey and the little sheep were my favorites to make, the faces took forever but they turned out so cute. It's not moving until Christmas.
I've bought plenty of mass produced nativity sets and they all end up in a box in the garage. This one feels different because I actually made every piece myself, and I know exactly how long Joseph's staff took me. My husband keeps picking up the little donkey to look at it. We'll definitely put this out every single December.
Did this with my two kids over their school break and each of them picked a figure to make. It beats the plastic set we used to put out, and they're so proud of it they point it out to everyone who visits.
Love how it came out. Only reason for four stars is delivery took a little longer than I expected, so I was racing to finish before Christmas and got the last piece done on the 23rd. Order early if you can.
Perfect way to wind down at night. I put the phone away, turn on a podcast and bead. Finished the whole set in about two weeks of evenings and I actually miss having a project now.
At 71 my eyes aren't what they used to be, but with good light and my magnifier lamp the beads were manageable. It took me a few weeks, a little each afternoon, and I finished before my grandchildren came to visit. They went down the row naming every figure, and the baby in the manger got the most attention. It sits on the mantel now.
I'm not crafty at all and was nervous to start, but the instructions were easy to follow. The first figure took me forever, by the third one I was flying through them.
We make one figure each night after dinner and it has become my daughter's and my favorite part of December. She picked Mary first and I got stuck with the donkey. We leave the phones in another room and put on music while we bead, and it's the one hour of the day nobody fights over the TV.
Gave the kit to my grandmother and we built it together over a couple of visits. She told the kids the whole Christmas story while we worked and I just sat there listening. It's on her piano now.
I started this during a stressful week and ended up looking forward to it every evening. Something about doing one small bead at a time made my head go quiet. By the time I finished the whole set I felt calmer than I had in months. Highly recommend if you want a Christmas activity that isn't more shopping.
Took me longer than I thought, closer to three weeks at an hour or so a night, but it never felt like a chore. The little ox with its horns is the one I'm proudest of.
Ordered the duo so my sister and I could each make one, and we did video calls while beading. Both sets turned out great and now we compare whose kings look better.
Beading the tiny baby in the manger was the part I looked forward to most, and I did it slowly on purpose. It was a quiet few minutes in the middle of a very busy December.
Everything I needed was in the box, no running to the craft store for extra beads. The colors are deep and the kings' robes turned out so good, the purple one especially.
