Got mine early so I could record without the December rush. Each of my kids said their Christmas wish, and the bottle is waiting on this shelf until the tree goes up. They keep asking to hear it, so I may have to hide it until then.
Recorded a Valentine's message for my wife, then laid the bottle down for a quick picture before hiding it. It's not studio quality, but it's my actual voice, and that was the point. She found it Valentine's morning, uncorked it and just stood there smiling. The little tree looks nice on its own, so it lives on our dresser now.
My mother-in-law grew up speaking French, so I was glad the label on the base is bilingual: the recording steps are printed in English and in French. She recorded her own Christmas message when she visited, using a toothpick and no help from me. It fits in one hand, which is how I'm holding it here, and it's been on our table since New Year's.
Christmas Eve on our coffee table. I recorded a message from Santa while the kids were in the bath and set the bottle out with the cookies. They pulled the cork Christmas morning and went completely still. It's been on the coffee table all week and they still take turns uncorking it.
Took this on our kitchen table before wrapping it for my daughter, who gets home from college on the 23rd. The red ribbon is tied around the neck of the bottle and the cork sits snug on top, so it already looks like a finished gift. I recorded a short message and one terrible joke so she can pull the cork whenever she misses us.
Opened it right at the dining table because I couldn't wait. It came in a foam tray inside a plastic bag, and nothing was broken. The steps are right there on the red label, so I didn't have to look anything up. I held the button down with a toothpick and said a few words for my granddaughter, who lives three states away. It goes in the mail tomorrow.
Testing it on my desk before it goes in the gift bag for our Secret Santa. I recorded a goofy 'a little elf says you've been good this year' and my officemate already wants one. The recording took me three tries because you have to keep the button held down the whole time you talk, but it's easy after that.
Posting this for anyone wondering how the recording works. It's all printed on the red label in English and French. You poke a pin or toothpick into the recorder button hole above the battery compartment, talk while you hold it down, then let go. To hear it, you pull the cork, and to redo it you go through the steps again. I took this before lifting it out of the foam.
Unboxed it on the kitchen counter this morning and had to take a close-up of the tree. The details are better than I expected: snowy tips, tiny red, silver, green and gold beads, and a little gold star on top. I'm recording a message for my mom tonight, and it goes under the tree for her at Christmas.
Came in a plain brown box with the bottle wrapped in a plastic bag and sitting in a foam tray, so it was well protected. The cork, the ribbon and the tree were all in place and nothing was broken. I haven't recorded my message yet because I keep rewriting what I want to say.
Father's Day: my dad says he doesn't want stuff anymore, so I recorded me and my sisters each telling him our favorite memory of him. He played it for the neighbors before I'd even left.
Mother's Day gift: a bottle for my mom with the kids telling her what they love about her. She keeps it on the shelf by her TV and plays it when she misses them.
Used ours for our anniversary: I re-recorded the Christmas message with a new one and put it on the nightstand. We're only on year three, but I can see this becoming a thing.
The kids replayed their message so many times that we swapped the batteries after New Year's. I was nervous that would wipe the recording, but it was still there afterwards.
Re-recorded it for my son's birthday this week. Going through the steps on the label again replaces the old message, so make sure you're finished with it first.
I proposed on Christmas Eve with this. I recorded 'Will you marry me?' and slid the bottle into a gift bag under the tree. She took the cork out, heard it, and looked up at me before I could get down on one knee. She said yes.
We recorded a message from each of our three kids for my brother's family in Texas and mailed the bottle in early December. On Christmas Day we got on a video call and watched them uncork it together. My brother had to go find a tissue.
Dad has never been great at saying I love you out loud, so I recorded it for him instead. He listened to it alone in the garage and I'm pretending I didn't notice.
Christmas morning my mom unwrapped it, popped the cork and heard me say Merry Christmas. She held it in both hands for the next ten minutes and didn't say much. Neither did I.
Shipping was slow, nearly two weeks, and I was sweating it for a Christmas gift. It showed up on the 22nd, so I made it, barely. The bottle is cute and works as described. Docking one star for the wait.
We all squeezed around the bottle and yelled Merry Christmas at the same time. That's the message my grandmother is getting. Her face when she hears 14 people at once is going to be great.
Grandma's eyesight is failing and she can't read cards anymore, so I recorded a message instead. All she has to do is take the cork out, no buttons or screens.
Love the idea and the little tree is adorable, but recording takes patience. The button is tiny, you hold it down while you talk, and my first attempt cut off the first word. It's fine once you get the hang of it. Four stars for the fiddly start.
Recorded my daughter singing Jingle Bells, off key and all, and it's going in the mail to her grandparents this week. I already know they'll play it on repeat.
Mom lives alone, and we talk on Sundays, but I wanted her to have my voice on the other days too. The bottle sits on her nightstand now, and she tells me she pulls the cork when the house is quiet.
Brought it to our office white elephant exchange and it got stolen three times. Whoever ends up with it can record over my message, which is half the fun.
Black Friday order, arrived about a week later. I recorded a message for my dad, who swears he's done with gifts, and put the cork back in. It's hidden in my closet until Christmas Eve.
Our six year old recorded her list for Santa, giggling the whole time. I've replayed it about a dozen times while she's at school and I'm not even embarrassed.
Ordered four, one for each of the kids' grandparents, and addressed each message to them by name. It took longer than I planned but it was worth it. The little tree inside is cute enough to sit on a mantel even without a message.
